The real app, recorded.
One take on a MacBook Pro M1: four scattered windows, then Shift + C, Z, E and Q snap them into quarters and Shift + S maximizes one. Not sped up.
One more press. Next display.

Questions, answered.
Is Encaje free?
Yes. Encaje is free and open source under the MIT license. There is no account, subscription or trial.
Which Macs does it support?
Apple Silicon Macs (M1 or newer) running macOS 14 Sonoma or later.
Can I drag windows into zones?
No. Encaje places windows with keyboard shortcuts: press a zone's shortcut and the focused window moves there.
Why does it need Accessibility permission?
macOS requires Accessibility for any app that moves other apps' windows or listens for global shortcuts. Encaje does not request Screen Recording, Microphone, Full Disk Access or Automation.
Will Shift+Q stop typing a capital Q?
With the default shortcuts, yes: Shift plus a letter moves the window. You can record different shortcuts, pause Encaje from the menu bar or exclude specific apps.
What do Workspaces restore?
The positions of matching windows that are already open. Workspaces do not launch apps or reopen documents.
How do updates work?
With automatic checks on, Encaje quietly looks for signed Sparkle updates on GitHub, for example when you open its panel or your Mac wakes. Installing always requires your action, and you can turn checks off.
Give every window a place.
